Toys that Come to Life Through Books

October 17, 2008

Tomorrow, here at Savvy Source, our awesome writing team will be sharing with you all books about toys that come to life. When I heard about this topic I just had to share my daughter's most favorite book about personification.

I have the kind of kid who wants to adopt every stuffed animal she comes in contact with-even visual contact from afar-because she just doesn't want them to be all by themselves. Granted these stuffed animals are usually sitting amongst hundreds of others but hey, she's compassionate. So last year when we were perusing my favorite gift shop at the San Diego Zoo, I came across this story:  The Stuffed Animals Get Ready for Bed. The title alone grabbed my attention and the little girl in her jammies on the cover, well, she reminded me of my girl. I knew this book was coming home with us. You see, when your child can connect their life to a book, literacy grows deep within them.

Now one of our favorite bedtime stories, The Stuffed Animals Get Ready for Bed is darling! The little girl has to hustle and bustle about trying to get all of her wound up stuffed animals ready for sleepy time. Sound familiar parents? Anyway, her spotted cow is busy serenading the lambies, her llama wants a nightlight, her chicken would rather be eating alphabet soup and her panda would like to soak the night away in the tub. Wouldn't we all? The rhyming text and patience of this sweet girl, with her alive and kickin' stuffed animals, is precious.

If you have a stuffed-animal loving kiddo, this book will excite them to think stuffed animals just might come to life and better yet, need to get ready for bed too.
