April Showers Bring April Flowers! - What to Do this Weekend

April 16, 2009

April showers brings May flowers seems like such a cliché in other cities (that actually experience rain) but the past few days of our half inch rain temper tantrums have really brought the local flowers to life. The showers have been kind to our foliage and with good timing considering all of the Spring celebrations of the last couple of weeks. My personal favorite festival in Balboa Park, which will be sponsoring its 20th Anniversary this year, is coming up this weekend.

Kilts, Picnics and Eggs this Weekend

April 02, 2009

The weather still hasn't made its mind up whether or not it has accepted the proposal of Spring so be sure to wear layers if you have a chance to enjoy any of these San Diego outdoor events that aim to celebrate the new season this weekend.

The first round of Easter Egg hunts will take place throughout the County on April 3 and 4. Children are encouraged to bring Easter baskets to hunt for colorful eggs. Some of the eggs include special prizes. For the younger hunters, you might want to head to the Paradise Hills Penn Athletic Field at 10 a.m. at 2550 Dusk Drive for more age-specific hunting grounds. For the 4 year olds and up, the South Clairemont  Rec Center is offering a "Parade of Wheels" contest where children can decorate their bikes and enter the Parade to win a prize. Of course, the Easter Bunny will also be making a guest appearance.

Savvy Pick: Favorite Post of September

September 30, 2008

Today we have been asked by the Savvy Source team to choose our favorite post this month. When I looked back over the posts I wrote in September there was one that I had so much fun creating: Appreciating the Old Town Art Festival With Preschoolers. The reasons for this post being my favorite are: 1. I love a good art festival. 2. There are lots and lots of art festivals in San  Read more...

Appreciating the Old Town Art Festival with Preschoolers

September 19, 2008

Do you ever feel up for an art festival yet avoid it because your preschooler would rather be scaling the walls than appreciating art? If you are in the mood for walking around Old Town, checking out art, listening to live music and eating tasty, tasty Mexican food come this weekend to the Old Town Art Festival . Here are some suggestions to make it fun for your preschooler too. The  Read more...

Art Walk on the Bay: Kidswalk, Kids Give

September 10, 2008

For the past few years, we have been regulars at Art Walk in Little Italy. Progressively through the years this art festival has become better and better. More art, more performers, more icy cold drinks, and more stuff for the kiddos. For these reasons, we are very excited for the return of Art Walk on the Bay (put on by the same folks as Little Italy's Art Walk) this weekend, September 13  Read more...

Your First San Diego Catch

August 22, 2008

Fishing is a right of passage for kids. I remember my first fishing trip with my dad. Catching trout then bringing them back to the cabin to watch him filet and cook them up for dinnerit was a fascinating science experiment and lesson in our connection to nature. If you're looking for that special first time fishing memory, look no further. National Hunting and Fishing Day is September 27  Read more...

Down by the Bay, Where the Big Ships Go

August 20, 2008

It's that time of year my maritime mates, the Festival of Sail is here in our very own San Diego Bay. If you want your preschooler to see an impressive variety of historic ships with their massive sails, don't miss this event. Festivities begin today with the Parade of Ships at 10am. Seriously, it feels as if you have hopped into some sort of time machine watching these ships sail in.  Read more...

The "Big Top" Seaport Village

June 19, 2008

[photo credit: chad cavanaugh] Now, I know this might sound downright crazy. This might even sound downright absurd considering the crowds that flock to San Diego in the summer time-we've all seen them. But, you gotta trust me on this one-just do it once-and go to Seaport Village . I know, I know, I am suggesting you visit the epicenter of downtown tourism. But, let me tell you, if  Read more...
